Methodology
Data sources
Everything comes from the public market-data APIs of six exchanges. No login and no third-party data vendor:
| Exchange | Contracts | Current rate | Settled records | Official page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 520 | premiumIndex, fundingInfo | fundingRate | Funding | |
| 289 | public/funding-rate | funding-rate-history | Funding | |
| 522 | market/tickers | market/funding/history | Funding | |
| 466 | current-fund-rate | history-fund-rate | Funding | |
| 593 | futures/usdt/contracts | futures/usdt/funding_rate | Funding | |
| 105 | swap_batch_funding_rate | swap_historical_funding_rate | Funding |
We cover USDT-margined perpetuals only: no coin-margined or dated futures, and no stock, commodity or FX contracts. Some exchanges price a coin per 1,000 units (for example 1000PEPE); funding is a percentage of position value, so rates compare directly. We also run a price consistency check: contracts whose price (per coin) differs by more than 1.25x from the others, or that have no price, are left out of the comparison. This catches most same-ticker, different-token cases but is not a guarantee.
Update frequency
- Current rate, next settlement, mark price, volume: every 2 minutes. Numbers refresh on their own while the page is open.
- Settled records: added within minutes of each settlement. At launch we loaded the last 30 days for every contract.
- Interval, listing time, max leverage: checked every 30 minutes. Interval changes are logged (see settlement times).
- If no new data arrives for 10 minutes, a delay notice appears at the top of the page.
Calculations
- Current rate: the rate the exchange expects to charge at the next settlement. It can still move before then.
- Per 8 hours = current rate × 8 ÷ interval (hours). A 1-hour contract at 0.01% becomes 0.08%, more expensive than an 8-hour contract at 0.05%.
- APR = current rate × (24 ÷ interval) × 365. A restatement of today's rate, not a real return.
- Spread: highest minus lowest per-8-hour rate for the same coin across exchanges.
Settled records
"7d settled" and "30d settled" add up every actual settlement in that window; they are not projections. Missing periods are never counted as zero: gaps are detected from the spacing between settlements, incomplete records are marked with *, and the 30-day ranking only includes complete, up-to-date records. When an interval changes, each period is converted with its own interval. Contracts under $50K in 24h volume are not tracked.
Fees
Holding cost uses the standard (lowest) tier USDT perpetual fees, charged once to open and once to close, checked by hand on each exchange's fee page on 2026-10-09:
| Exchange | Maker | Taker | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | 0.020% | 0.050% | Official |
| OKX | 0.020% | 0.050% | Official |
| Bybit | 0.020% | 0.055% | Official |
| Bitget | 0.020% | 0.060% | Official |
| Gate | 0.020% | 0.050% | Official |
| HTX | 0.020% | 0.060% | Official |
The calculator uses the standard-tier rates above. VIP tiers, token discounts, promotions and your region all affect your actual fee.
Limits
- The current rate changes until settlement; holding cost is estimated two ways ("rate stays the same" and "7-day average"). It is not a forecast.
- Price moves, slippage, liquidation and borrowing costs are not included.
- Exchange APIs are sometimes delayed or wrong; the exchange's own page is authoritative.
- Some exchanges are not available in every country. Check local rules before opening an account.
Referral links
Some exchange buttons are referral links. We may earn a commission if you sign up through them, and your fees do not go up. Rankings and "cheapest" labels are based on data only, regardless of referral status; exchanges without a partnership are shown the same way.
