How to sign up on Gate: account, KYC and futures
Gate asks for your <b>country of residence first</b>, then an email or phone code and a password. Before futures you need identity verification, 2FA and a fund password, steps many guides skip. This one follows Gate's help center.
Before you start
- An email or phone number, each usable for one account; codes are valid for 15 minutes.
- A valid ID of your own; individual verification usually takes a few hours to 1 business day.
- You must be 18+, and multiple accounts are not allowed.
- Check your country first. Gate's user agreement excludes a long list including the US, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, Japan, South Korea, the UK, France, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Indonesia and Russia (see the latest user agreement). Choose your real country on the first screen.
Step 1: open the sign-up page
Open the Gate sign-up page (Sign Up at the top right) or the Gate app. Our button carries the referral automatically.

Step 2: enter email or phone, password
First choose your country/region of residence, accept the terms and tap Create Account.
Choose email or phone, enter it and request a code.
Set a login password; mixing letters, numbers and symbols is recommended.
Referrals: Gate allows only one referral method per user and doesn't say a referral can be added later, so open the referral link before you sign up.
Step 3: enter the verification code
Enter the email or SMS code (valid for 15 minutes) and set your password to finish.
No code? Check spam, confirm the number and tap Resend, and whitelist Gate's official email.
Step 4: verify your identity
Gate requires verification for deposits, withdrawals and fiat trading, and for futures. Upload your ID and complete face recognition; individual reviews usually take a few hours to 1 business day.

Step 5: secure your account
Before futures Gate requires 2FA (Google Authenticator or Gate Authenticator) and a fund password. An anti-phishing code and the withdrawal whitelist are worth adding too. Setting or resetting the fund password pauses withdrawals for 24 hours.

Step 6: deposit USDT
USDT perpetuals use USDT as margin. The usual way in is an on-chain transfer from another exchange or wallet: on Gate tap Deposit, choose USDT and a network (such as TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20), copy the address, then send from the other side on the same network. A wrong network can mean lost funds, so try a small amount first.
Gate also sells USDT by card or P2P, depending on your region.
Step 7: open futures and place a first order
- With verification, 2FA and a fund password in place, click Futures in the menu and the futures account opens automatically.
- Classic accounts transfer USDT from Spot to Futures under Assets → Transfer; unified accounts need no transfer.
- Pick a USDT perpetual such as BTC_USDT. For the first 3 days leverage is capped at 20x. Beginners usually use isolated margin and low leverage.
- Choose limit or market, enter the size and tap Long or Short. Check the funding rate and next settlement first.

Work out the cost first. At Gate's standard rates, opening and closing a 10,000 USDT position with market orders costs about 10.0 USDT in fees (0.050% taker × 2), or 4.0 USDT with limit orders that rest on the book. Holding also pays or receives funding at every settlement: BTC is at +0.0076% now, so a 10,000 USDT long pays about 0.76 USDT this period. The holding cost calculator shows where a position is cheapest to hold.
The higher the leverage, the smaller the move that liquidates you. Beginners usually start at 2–5x with isolated margin and a stop-loss.

I didn't get the Gate verification code.
Check spam, confirm the number and tap Resend, and whitelist Gate's official email.
Checked against Gate's official help center on 2026-10-22. Buttons and promotions change; the sign-up page is the final word. Make sure Gate is available and legal where you live, and never use someone else's ID or a false country of residence. Futures trading is high risk and you can lose all of your margin.
